How long should I stay?

view

People can easily think there is not much to do in Santa María, but even those who stay for a week find they run out of time to do everything they would like to do.

Santa María is a tranquil place, where you appreciate time to unwind, to relax in a hammock, and to read books from the library about the Reductions, or English novels with a South American theme. Children make friends with local kids, and the language barrier just does not seem to matter. They can feed the monkeys together, go down to the stream, play volleyball or watch the Sunday football match. As a family you may like to take a day to go into the countryside and climb the Cerro (Hill) which is a traditional pilgrimage place, perhaps riding there at the stately rhythm of an ox cart.

You will probably want to visit some of the closest Reductions, such as San Ignacio, Santa Rosa and Santiago, each of which merits a day’s visit. Santiago has a Benedictine monastery, well tucked away in the depths of the countryside.

Within Santa María itself, we offer a number of campesino activities as Classes, as well as Visits and Sporting Activities.

Of course, if you can only manage a day, we will still give you a wonderful time.
